An elephant shrew’s heart is about the size of the tip of your pinky.
Step

Get Up & Move. Time to go on a home safari. Look for objects that
are about the size of an elephant shrew heart. Use the tip of your
pinky to help you remember the size.

Let’s continue on your African animal heart safari.

A human heart is about the size of your fist. A hyena’s heart is also
about the size of your fist.

that are about the size of a hyena heart. You can use your fist to help
you remember the size.

In this mini-lesson, students will explore the similarities and differences between various animal hearts. In the no-prep activity, Animal Heart Safari, students go on a virtual safari to learn more about the variation in animal heart size. Students also participate in a scavenger hunt, looking for objects that are similar sizes to animal hearts. Students can then use this information to create Valentine's cards.
